What are lash extensions?
Lash Extensions are a process in which a single one of your natural lashes is isolated and a single extension lash or hand-made volume lash fan is carefully applied to your own natural eyelash, approximately 1 mm from the eyelid so that neither the glue or the lash has contact with the skin.
*Lash Extensions can only be applied to your natural lashes, not your skin; this is why you must have healthy natural lashes to receive lash extensions.*
How long does it take to apply a full set of lashes?
Your first full set appointment should take approx 2-2.5 hours.
How long do extensions last?
Lash extensions will generally shed off completely at around 5-6 weeks without fills. Therefore you will need regular fills to maintain fullness and keep them looking amazing.
Fills are recommended every 2 weeks as our lashes shed just as the rest of the hair on our bodies; and our lash extensions are attached to those hairs. The bond life also depends on many things such as: proper after or home care, lifestyle, proper preparation, and proper application.
When cared for and maintained properly, lash extensions can be worn as long as you desire. I have many clients who have had their extensions for years.
What is a lash fill?
A fill is where a lash artist goes through the lashes to remove and replace grown out lash extensions, add new extensions where others have shed and to new hair regrowth that is in a growth phase mature enough to healthily hold an extension.
How long does a fill take?
Industry standard for a lash fill is at least 60 minutes. Quality cannot be rushed.
To successfully remove grown out lashes, create beautiful hand made fluffy fans customized for each natural lash to replace them with, fill in any gaps where loss has occurred, and ensure every viable lash has a new extension on it, time is needed.
If you want quality lashes, patience is key on both the artist and clients behalf.
How often do I need fills?
Industry standard is every 2 weeks.
Our bodies shed 2-5 natural lashes per day, per eye. Yep, our eyelashes shed just like the rest of the hair on our bodies! Our eyelashes are also unique to us just like the hair we have everywhere else on our bodies. Meaning we could have anywhere from 60-200+ lashes total. Lash hair can also be brittle, weak, full, fine, thick, coarse; there are many differences to a set of natural lashes and no two clients have the exact same lash line.
Therefore, to keep your extensions looking full, even, and beautiful at all times, 2 weeks is industry standard to ensure quality fills for your unique lashes.
Fill frequency also depends on a clients home care. Make sure to take excellent care of your investment and maintain them as your lash artist suggests.
Are lash extensions permanent?
All lash extensions are semi-permanent. They grow and shed with your natural lashes as previously discussed, which is the reason fills are mandatory. If your lash extensions aren't shedding as they should be, you have a problem with improper products or techniques being used on them. Shedding is necessary and healthy.
Will lash extensions damage my natural lashes?
With a skilled application and proper aftercare and maintenance, your lashes will not be damaged, no. In fact, many clients of mine have ended up having healthier natural lashes after removing their extensions due to the fact that they were not curling/using mascara on them daily.
A big tip for ensuring your lashes remain healthy is to educate yourself when choosing your technician and have your technician educate you on how to properly care for your extensions. If you are having damage occur to your natural lashes, there is either improper technique being applied, or improper home care.
How do I wash them/what do I use?
With the purchase of your full set you will receive a complimentary lash cleanser and lash cleansing brush; along with a take home guide which details all of the information needed to properly care for your investment. There is also a video up on my Instagram highlights called "lash cleansing" that describes this process in detail if you'd like to refer to it.
